Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

Okay, so it’s the middle of the year and I am officially *freaking out*!!! I mean where did 6 months just go?!? With that in mind, I thought I’d do the mid-year book freak out tag, before I turn around and it’s January or something crazy! Thank you so much to That Girl And Her Books for tagging me to do this!

Best Book You’ve Read Yet in 2016

That is such a hard question- I’m gonna go ahead and say Shadow of the Wind one for now- but that’s subject to change- and thankfully this year I have read *lots* of excellent books (so I’m already well on my way to achieving my goal of reading better books this year)

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2016

Well I’m gonna go with Morning Star and Golden Son- just cos you know how much I loved that series! And if you don’t know, you can check out my reviews for books 1, 2 and 3.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

That’s a tricky one- I reckon one of the ones I especially wanted to read this year was the new Cassandra Clare book that came out yonks ago- I’m addicted to all Shadowhunter books and I still haven’t read this yet! Shame on me!

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

Well that’s got to be an Empire of Storms– cos I’m addicted to the Throne of Glass series.

Biggest Disappointment

Unfortunately there have been a few of those too- I’m gonna pick an unpopular choice here and say Court of Thorns and Roses– even though I love Maas (see above) I wasn’t that impressed with this one.

Biggest Surprise

Gone Girl– cos even though I knew what was coming- since I’d seen the movie- it still surprised me by being an essentially excellent book.

Favourite New Author

Can I say Pierce Brown even though I already mentioned him? Okay, okay, in the interest of fairness I’ll go with Isaac Bashevis Singer as I haven’t given him a mention yet- that and the fact that I’ve given all the books I’ve read of his this year 5*.

Newest Fictional Crush

No new crushes I’m afraid- although I have carried some old ones across from last year: Kell from A Darker Shade of Magic, Magnus from Falling Kingdoms, and I still love Baz from Carry On!

 Newest Favourite Character

You know what I’m gonna go with Theodore Finch- in part just cos I love the name, and also cos I think he’s a brilliantly drawn character.

Book That Made You Cry

Well- I just finished Me Before You…. So enough said really.

Book That Made You Happy

Honestly- most of them! But this one in particular

Favourite Book to Film Adaptation

Sadly, I haven’t seen many films in the cinema this year- but I am really looking forward to this one

Favourite Post You Have Done This Year

Not gonna lie, it was my Worst YA Plans 1, 2 and 3– I’d planned those posts for ages, but was really nervous about putting it out there. When I finally did I was delighted with y’alls response.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year

That’s hard! I don’t think I’ve bought anything  particularly pretty- this one has a particularly attractive cover though (I’m biased- obviously!)

What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year

Okay, so I have said somewhere that this is the year I plan to read War and Peace– and in case you haven’t heard me say that, I’m saying it again now- so you can all hold me to that before the year is out!

war and peace

And a gazillion other books besides!

That was a lot of fun! I tag:

  1. Reading your choices for this tag was so much fun. I have GOT to get on the Pierce Brown series. It’s incredible how Red Rising has over 70,000 ratings on Goodreads yet still maintains a super high average rating of 4.24. As for movies, I’ve hardly seen any in the theater this year either. Room was an excellent book to movie adaptation, though.

  2. THANK YOU FOR TAGGING ME! You’re the best, and I can’t wait to do this tag! I cannot wait to watch the BFG!! I’ve been watching all the trailers, and reading reviews and it looks like it’ll be an amazing movie 🙂

  3. Thanks so much for the tag!!! I already know I’m going to love doing the post, yay! I saw that you picked Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare and to be honest I’m almost afraid to read it, since the final Shadowhunter book was so long and for me a bit disappointing (too much stuff going on). Hope you’ll like Lady Midnight, can’t wait for your review on it. 🙂

  4. Thanks for the tag! This is so fun. We’re celebrating Fourth of July here this weekend so I’ll probably get to it during the week. Red Rising is such an amazing book. I loved it so much. The crazy thing is I still haven’t started Golden Son. I know you’re shocked. 😂 I opened it and read the charts in the beginning and never read the first sentence of the book. I started way too many series at the same time. I think that’s my problem. I loved your worst YA book plans. They were so hilarious. What a good idea cause they were so spot on. Thanks again. Nice post!

    1. You’re welcome! Oh have fun with that! It really is!! haha no I’m not shocked- I just hope you enjoy it as much as I did if you do get to it! I know, I’ve been the same- it’s really hard to keep going with all those series on the go. Thank you!!

  5. Perfect timing! I was just thinking to do this so thanks for the tag.
So not surprised at your answer for the best sequel question. Lol.
And yea, those worst YA plans posts were great! I enjoyed them.

  6. Good luck with finishing War and Peace! 🙂 I haven’t read Gone Girl yet, but the movie was awesome. And of course, can’t wait to read Red Rising! 😀 Great answers!

  7. I agree with you on ACOTAR – while it was good, it just felt way too repetitive – at one point, I was questioning whether this was written as a Throne of Glass spin off or something, simply because everything felt so familiar.

I have Golden Son, but I don’t remember much of Red Rising, and so I’ll have to go back and re-read it – which is putting me off, because I don’t like re-reading :\

  8. I woke up today and it’s July. JULY? How did that happen? Last night it was January, I was just starting my blog, and I did not have a TBR!!!!
I love that mid-year report! It’s going to be my first July Suntag! (poor earlier tags are gonna hate me for that!) Thanks for the nomination, love 😀
I’ve only started Heir of Fire, I did not know there was another book coming! More entertainment, more complaints about Celaena, yay!
I’m one of the few who did not cry because of Me Before You. I am a monsteeeeer! I’m keeping Red Rising for the winter when I’ll be swamped with uni work and in dire need of some good story to delve into!
Your Worst YA Plans posts were so good, you did not have to be nervous about posting them. Brilliant Post Award!

    1. I know right!!! What is going on with the world!! hahaha I know right!!! You’re very welcome!!
haha I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts about it!
Ahh I actually cried at the bit in the middle rather than the ending- the bit in the maze was so heartbreaking. I wonder if I’m a monster cos I didn’t cry at the end?
Well I hope you enjoy it then!! That’s a good time to read it 🙂
Ahh thanks so much!!!! I really was nervous- would you believe it but I had them ready to go for months before I put them out there! Thank you!!

  9. Shadow of the wind is fantastic. I started reading it in hotel when I ran out of books, then couldn’t take it home so I had to order it from the library so I could finish it.

  10. Such great answers! Lady Midnight is so good – you definitely have to read it soon. 🙂 I’m a sucker for Shadowhunters novels too, but I’m not sure if I’m going to love this series as much as TMI or TID. I’m basically just happy for Clare to keep them coming though, tbh! Love this tag. 🙂 x
