Hello again- as promised I’m back to tackle another tag today. And this one’s pretty simple- I just have to list between five and ten pairs of books (a bit like “if you like this, you’ll like this…”). Well, it sounds pretty simple, but it was actually quite tricky for me cos I usually try to read books as different to each other as possible after each other- so I had to actually train my brain for a minute to not think in opposites! Eventually though I came up with some decent pairs of books.
Anyway- thank you so much to the awesome Bookish Underdog for tagging me to do this one. On with the tag!!
- Isla and the Happily Ever After & To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before– cute, frothy and so romantic!!
- Sabriel & Northern Lights– two of my absolute favourite dark fantasies!
- Little Women & I Capture the Castle– more cute romances!! Plus these ones have a nice bit of sisterly love going on.
- Fahrenheit 451 & V For Vendetta– books on why fascism is bad… (in case you needed reminding 😉 )
- One Day in the Life of Ivan Densovitch & Animal Farm– books on why communism is bad… (another healthy reminder: Marxism killed 100s of millions of people)
- The Belljar & The Yellow Wallpaper– books on why mental illness is bad- especially for women apparently… (boy has this post gone in a cheerful direction…)
- Hobbit & Chronicles of Narnia– the bedrock for any fantasy fan- open the cupboard and… ooh look a dragon! (also I needed to change the subject)
- Rebecca & Wuthering Heights– beautiful, slightly gothic and super seductive romances…
- Anansi Boys & Mort– funny fantasy!!!
- Three Musketeers & Count of Monte Cristo– swashbuckling- lots and lots of sword fights!
Hoho- that post got a little darker than I expected! Hope you enjoyed it anyway- I tag:
So agree or disagree with my choices? Let me know in the comments!
I haven’t personally read To All the Boys I Loved Before, but from what I heard I can see it paired with Isla really well!

Glad you ended with some classics.
And who doesn’t love Death in Discworld? Anyone who doesn’t obviously has no sense of humor…

I loved your choices! It’s like some of those books were meant to be together, the two by Alexandre Dumas, of course, but also Isla and the All The Boys I’ve Loves Before. Anyway, thanks so much for the tag! I’m already thinking of which books to pair and it’s harder than I thought!

Thank you for the tag! The Yellow Wall-Paper was really quite disturbing, but I enjoy Charlotte’s short stories and her novella, Herland, as well.

One of the most interesting tags I have seen! It is funny because it is almost as if I have read one half of each pair 😉 Looks like I have some re-reading and catching up to do 😛

Yes it is a great tag! Oh that’s fantastic!! I hope you enjoy reading the other halves of these pairs 😁 (and all the rereading)

Considering that your mind works in opposites, maybe you should do a “if you hate this, then read that” list.

Ah, The Count of Monte Cristo… a book from my childhood… much like The Three Musketeers.. I loved it when I was young and I tried to re read it last year and I was like- pfffff…. it’s a bit slow starting innit? 😀 TCMCristo though is something I should reread…

Excellent choices. I, like you, tend to read something completely different once I’ve finished a book but you’ve got some great double bills here. I particularly like the Gaiman/Pratchett combination.

One Day in the Life of Ivan Densovitch!! I thought Animal Farm was the perfect (and only necessary) reminder of how bad communism is, but man, this one sounds fantastic!! Insta-TBR, right there! 😀

It is amazing!! I really hope you read it- it’s nice and short and much easier to read than gulag archipelago (his other work which I’m currently reading) but leaves a really profound impact!! 😁

OMG I love this!!
I so have to read Sabriel and Rebecca now, seeing as you’re pairing them with two of my absolute favorite books!
I Capture the Castle… I’ve watched the movie and it really is so adorable ❤️ I need to read the book now and try Little Women.
And whenever I’m in the mood for some fluff, I’ll refer to your #1 choices. They sound super cute 🙂
Great post!

Great pairings! I especially loved how “why communism is bad” and “why fascism is bad” manage to sum up the core messages in four words 🙂 … and sadly I think many of us do need reminding!

Great pairings- and so many great books, too. It occurred to me, as I read your post, that I really enjoy that atmospheric Gothic fiction. Thanks for the inspiration 😀
