Totally Should’ve Book Tag

totally should have tag.png

Hello all! Gosh- I just looked at the date I was first tagged for this and had to double check my blog in case I’d already done it, cos it was sooo long ago. I guess that title says it all: I totally should have done this book tag already! Anyway, huge thank you to the queen of contemporary recs Deanna @A Novel Glimpse, the always awesome Rivermoose Reads and the supremely lovely Sophie @Blame Chocolate!

Totally Should’ve Gotten A Sequel

It’s really hard to pick a standalone where I’d have liked a sequel, but I’m gonna go with I Capture the Castle– it doesn’t need a second one, but I’d just like more.

 Totally Should’ve Had A Spin-Off Series

Harry Potter- we need a Marauders series already!!!

 Totally Should’ve Ended Differently

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin… That ending was just ugh.

 Totally Should’ve Had A T.V . Show

Ooh there are so many books being turned into TV shows, so maybe I can influence someone. I’d love it if the Black Magicians Trilogy was made into a series. And there’s a sequel series- so you know, the series could go on for ages *hint hint nudge nudge* tv producers 😉

Totally Should’ve Had A Film Franchise

Again- I can dream of someone actually listening to this- but how cool would the Shades of Magic series be if it was a film franchise?

a darker shade of magic

Also can we please please please have a Carry On Film?! (Please!!!)

carry on

(okay I know I asked for two, but both of those would be amazing, and if you don’t ask, you don’t get)

Totally Should’ve Had One Point of View

I think actually Knife Edge- while the first one worked really well with dual perspective, the second one could have done without it (as much as I am in love with this series)

Totally Should’ve Had A Cover Change

When in the history of books has anyone asked for a cover change?! I guess the new Mortal Instrument covers are an improvement (I’ll begrudgingly admit that the old ones needed to be updated).

 Totally Should’ve Stopped Reading

Hush Hush– why oh why did I bother to finish that series?

 Totally Should’ve Kept The Cover

Oh easy!! I woke up one day and my entire Iron Fey series on my kindle changed from this…

To this…

I’m sure everyone that hates seeing faces on covers was made happier by this change, but I just don’t find them as interesting to look at. And *I know* I shouldn’t really be upset cos these are virtual books and all… but it was just so sad :/

 Totally Shouldn’t Have Pre-judged

Hmm interestingly enough, I didn’t actually have high expectations for Daughter of Smoke and Bone- I’d read *a lot* of books around that time about angels and demons, but they’d all sucked. To say I was pleasantly surprised by it would be a *massive* understatement. I am so glad that I picked this book up anyway, cos this is one of my all-time favourite series now!!

Totally Tagging:

Ali @I Wuv Books, Daley Downing, Didi Oviatt, Panic at the Bookstore, Maniacal Book Unicorn, Marie’s Library, Charlotte Annelise and Michaela @ Journey into Books (as usual no pressure to do it- yada yada yada)

And that’s all folks! Do you *totally* agree with my answers? Or *totally* disagree? Or just *totally* think I need to stop saying *totally*? 😉 Let me know in the comments!

  1. Thank you for the tag! A Carry On movie would be so cool, I only read that one last week. It sounds like you liked I Capture the Castle, I’ve owned that book for sooo long but have never read it. I think I need to one day.

  2. Totally glad I never read Hush, Hush. It was on my TBR forever and I finally gave up and took it off because I just couldn’t bring myself to read it. Totally made the right decision. Also, I totally need to read daughter of smoke and bone as soon as possible if you’re saying its one of your all time favorites!

  3. OMG, I didn’t know it until now, but an I Capture the Castle sequel is exactly what I’ve needed in life! I also agree 100% on Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. I got so mad when I read that ending that I threw the book!

  4. A black magicians tv show???? Oh yessss!!! I would so watch it! Although I can tell now, I’ll bitch about who will play Akkarin, cause no one would live up to my expectations^^

I want this so much now 😀

I will steal this tag, hooray!

  5. My unpopular opinion: JK Rowling is already milking too much of Harry Potter. I actually really respected her when she claimed years ago that HP was done, that that was it. Now we’re getting The Cursed Child, Pottermore stories published as books, The Fantastic Beasts movies, etc. (I mean, I did like Fantastic Beasts, but that’s not the point right now. :p) I kind of feel as if she’s going back on her word and the HP universe is getting saturated with all her new projects.

    1. hehe you know what, that’s fair enough. And to be honest, I may sound bad, but I haven’t actually read/watched any of that stuff, or read all the stuff on Pottermore- cos frankly I don’t care and I’m not interested. *But* I have always wanted a Marauders spinoff and I figure since she’s doing all the things, I don’t want, maybe just maybe I’ll get my wish and get to read about Sirius at Hogwarts (basically my dream 😉 )

  6. OMG YES WE NEED A MARAURDERS SPIN OFF!! I’ve been wishing for it forever 😭. I read the hush hush series years ago and I think I actually really liked it? This way back hen twilight was at its peak though so I’m not really sure I’d like it if I re read it today 😂! I really need to read daughter of smoke and bone though, it’s been on my TBR for a really long time now! Great post 💕

  7. I haven’t read 9/10th’s of these, so I can’t intelligently comment on most of them. But never fear, that will NOT stop me!

Harry Potter should have ended with book 3. If it wasn’t for that “guy” on the last Iron book, I’d have agreed with you. More pretty faces please. But not a guy. Maybe if I penciled in a mustache and beard, broke the nose and called him Bjorn. But without those qualifiers, I’m happy to see that “guy” gone.

  8. Don’t know any of the books that are featured in this post (except Harry Potter of course), but it was still a lot of fun to read, and a really cool tag. And this is part of the fun, since this means I have a couple of new books to add to my list 😀

  9. Great answers! I agree, the Shades of Magic series would be SO COOL as a movie franchise. I’m scared they’ll ruin everything, though, ahahah, so I think it’s good if they stay books, too :p
I’m so glad you love Daughter of Smoke and Bone so much – I have this on my TBR and can’t wait to read it someday 🙂

  10. Loved all the books you chose! I have heard nothing but great things about the Black Magician series and really want to read it. This has just made me bump it up on my TBR. And I have to admit, I was one of the people secretly hoping they would change the covers for The Iron Fey series, but this is not what I had in mind. The look so plain now. Thankfully, I still have the physical copies to look at, however horrible they may be.

    1. Thank you so much!! 😀 Ah awesome- I really hope you like it- I actually took a while to get into book 1, but I *loved* where that series ended up going. hahaha yeah I personally liked the old version, but I know a lot of people don’t like faces on covers, so I knew some people would be up for a change. But yeah they went in such a meh direction with it. haha!

  11. You’re movie books were some really great choices though I don’t see Carry On EVER getting a film deal it sure would be cool and would work as a standalone movie! A Darker Shade of Magic may still get one…? Hoping?! I’m reading the first book in the series and totally can see this happening!! ❤

  12. “Supremely lovely”? Oh my! You do know how to make a blogger blush xD Thank you so much ❤ ❤ *hugs*
Absolutely agree on Shades of Magic – it would be totally epic as a movie franchise! And one those franchises I wouldn't mind stretching it out into six movies instead of three hahaha (though book two was a bit meh? I'm still hoping book three will redeem its predecessor)
And as for DoSaB, it also took me the longest time to read it as I felt it would just be super average… How. Wrong. I. Was.
I just finished book two recently and to say my heart has been broken, pierced, put back together, smashed again, crushed into fine powder, fed to the wolves, etc etc is a complete accurate statement.
I'm dreading finishing the series but at the same time I can't wait for things to finally work out!!! ARGH SO MANY FEELS T_T
Awesome answers, and awesome post! 🙂

Ah I know right- hahaha I get what you mean But don't worry 3 makes up for it!!)
I completely agree with you- I didn't have high hopes for it at all- I'm so so glad I was wrong!!
Ahhh it's so good!! I loved every single one of those books!!
      Thank you so much!! 😀

  13. Ha, the Iron King series- I’m one of those people who prefer not to have faces on covers and the second(new) set appeals to me more 🙂 Sorry you were sad tho 😦
I have yet to read Schwab books and don’t even mention the hush hush series.. I think years ago when I read (2 books, I think?) I kinda/sorta liked them but yeah, would not read them again 🙂
