Hello all! Back again for my favourite first line post 😀 As usual, here are the rules I’m breaking:
Rules
- Thank the person who nominated you
- Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day)
- Nominate three new bloggers each day
Thank you so much to the fantastic Flora the Sweaterist for tagging me to do this! She’s a marvellous bi-lingual blogger, doing book and movie reviews in both English and Hungarian! So worth checking her out!
There is so much characterisation in this first line!! Although Pride and Prejudice might technically have one of the best lines ever written, I actually prefer this because it was this line that made me understand Austen’s humour and become addicted to her beautiful books.

Do any of you love Austen? If so, when did you fall for her writing style? Let me know in the comments!
I live Austen I can’t remember when I read her books first. I think Pride and prejudice was free with a newspaper or a voucher sometime in my teens and that started me off. 😀 I’m a huge classic fan now

I love this! Emma is such a good book… I read it for my A-Levels and I try to re-read it every year, because the sarcasm and satire is just so strong. Good choice!

This is definitely one of my favorite first lines from a Jane Austen book! I tells you so much about Emma and sets up the rest of the book perfectly! 😄

I think I discovered Austen in bible school when I was searching desperately for some non-fiction. Haven’t looked back since 😀

Jane Austen has the best opening lines! I think I’m going to re-read Emma in February, it’s been too long! Thanks for tagging me!

I’ve never read anything by Austen, but even I’ve read the first line of Pride and Prejudice, just goes to show how far reaching her books are. 🙂 Is Emma your favourite book by her, or just the book with your favourite opening line?

Yeah it really is. And Yes, Emma’s my favourite- that’s why I’m totally biased about the first line 😉

I’ve been reading Emma forever but I thought I’d share the one note I’ve made so far: “a conniving woman tries to set everyone up according to her own standards” 😂

hahahaha that’s a little too true 😉 (but I also want to swoop in and defend her- cos she has a good heart and means well- and okay I’m biased cos of her character growth, I’ll stop now 😉 )
