Mid Year Freak Out Tag #3

orangutan tag 2

Wow how is it the middle of the year already?!? Where has time gone?! I wasn’t tagged for this, but I was reminded of this annual tradition by the lovely CJR Brit, the brilliant Bibliophalgist and the fab Graphic Novelty– so do check our their posts! Oh and by the way, there will be cheating with the answers, cos I’m a cheeky monkey and can’t help myself 😉

Best Book You’ve Read Yet in 2019

winter of the witch

This would’ve been an impossible choice- but I got round it by seeing what I wasn’t using in other answers 😉 So stayed tuned, cos there are some *fab books* to come!

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2016

Okay I may be going with two, but they’re by the same author, so it doesn’t count right?!

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

There are loads, but this one is everywhere right now and it’s tempting me:

red white and royal blue

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

wayward son

I am literally jittery every time I think about this!!

Biggest Disappointment

atlas shrugged

No surprises: Atlas Shrugged. Wow, that was painfully hard to get through.

Biggest Surprise

truly devious

I had a sneaking suspicion I’d like Truly Devious, yet I was surprised by quite how much I enjoyed it! (and how much I want to read on!!)

Favourite New Author

Going with the lovely C. G. Drews/Cait from Paper Fury– I read both her books this year and absolutely loved them!! I look forward to whatever comes next 😀

Newest Fictional Crush

Gotta be Cardan from Cruel Prince– I wasn’t totally sure about the romantic chemistry until I read Wicked King and now he’s got his claws into me!

 Newest Favourite Character

Anyone in a Reid novel. This is gonna be a really strange answer, because I feel like I have a really complicated relationship with these characters, but they just feel so real to me and deserve a *round of applause*.

Book That Made You Cry

sadie

Easily Sadie. It reduced me to a puddle on the floor.

Book That Made You Happy

night of cake and puppets

Night of Cake and Puppets had me grinning from ear to ear!

Favourite Book to Film Adaptation

Just caught Good Omens on Prime and thoroughly enjoyed it- but more on that another time 😉

Favourite Post You Have Done This Year

Hmm probably How (Not) to Read Reviews– made myself laugh/*cackle maniacally* when I wrote it 😉

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year

king of scars

Hands down this lovely copy of King of Scars (which also counts as a new release I still need to read…)

What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year

tbr books

*Coughs awkwardly* Some of you may notice books that have been there a while (years, guys, it’s been years…)

Moving swiftly on… I tag:

Kelly @Another Book in the Wall, Katie @Never Not Reading, Rivermoose Reads, Journey into Books, Dani @Perspective of a Writer, Bookworm Muse, Hammock of Books, Sophie and Bookmark Your Thoughts

That was fun- I didn’t even cheat as much as I thought I would 😉 Anyway, what are the best books you’ve read this year? Which ones made you laugh and which ones made you cry? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I loved the first book in the Winternight Trilogy! I haven’t finished rest of the series yet but I hope I’ll get to it soon. I’ve read Holy Sister and sadly, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped. I’m glad you loved it! I also want to read Red, White and Royal Blue because I’ve heard great things about it.

  2. Aaaah, Good Omens!!! I don’t have an active Prime subscription right now (and that’s not going to change any time, my budget just doesn’t have the wiggle room), so I have to wait, but I am SO stoked for this one!

  3. Haha, great choices all around even with the small amount of cheating. I feel like such a fake Rainbow Rowell fan because my current mood about Wayward Son is don’t care. But I’m sure I will change my mind when I *finally* get around to Carry On this summer. I am MUCH more excited about Pumpkin Heads.

  4. I’m always a sucker for a good tearjerker. Definitely going to have to check out Sadie! Theres a weird satisfaction in making yourself miserable with a good story.

  5. I always thought ‘Atlas Shrugged’ was a rather funny book, though not in a ha ha sense – I keep seeing satirical references to its polemic in gaming (Borderlands 1 was very good at it) usually taking digs at the way Rand was so tied up with exploring one-sided extremes of a particular ideology that the loss of moral compass evident in that exploration was invisible. But only to her…

  6. Ooh yes I need to read Red, White, and Royal Blue so much! And Truly Devious was so good but I haven’t checked out its sequel yet…gahhh. I have so little time to read yet so many books 😦

      1. my restraint is so bad compared to yours…if I get an anticipated read I read it as soon as I can get (*ahem* The Wicked King)

  7. I know I’m so very far behind, but I only just discovered Terry Pratchett, finishing his first Discworld book yesterday. My friend told me about the book written with Neil Gaiman too, but I want to read his other stuff first. He’s so funny and clever! Loved it! 😀

  8. Good Omens was a brilliant adaptation. The book has long been a favorite, so I was skeptical at first. Knowing that Gaiman himself wrote it made me feel better about it, but I was not prepared for how much I would love it.

I tried reading Atlas Shrugged many years ago after a friend recommended it, but could never get past the first chapter of two…

    1. It really was! Yeah that gave me a lot of confidence as well- and it totally lived upto the book 🙂

hehehe I *completely* understand- that book was a slog! It’s the kind of book that deserves to be DNF’d.

  10. Red, White and Royal Blue is literary everywhere! The hype for that book is insane. With that being said, I want to read it as well. 🙂 I’m also sooo exited for Wayward Son, that book can’t come out soon enough!
I haven’t read anything by Taylor Jenkins Reid yet, but I do own Evelyn Hugo and I plan on reading it soon. 😀 I can’t wait to watch Good Omens! I have heard so many amazing things about it!
King of Scars is such a beautiful book. Amazing post! 🙂

  11. Thanks for the tag!! ❤ That cover for 'The Winter of the Witch' is just … wow. I need it …

'Red, White & Royal Blue' is a great read! I can't wait for you to give it a go! I haven't read Rowell's prequel book to Wayward Son yet (Carry On?), but it seems REALLY good … going to try and get it from the library sometime this summer.

I also have read Good Omens but I want to soon so I can watch the show … so excited! And I need to read C. G. Drews' books … especially the one with a boy who has autism. My brother has autism, so I'm curious to see how the character is portrayed.

    Great list!

      Thank you!

  12. Thank you for the tag!!! I loved reading your answers! You just reminded me about Wayward Son haha. I’m a bit nervous about it since I thought Carry On was great as a standalone book but at the same time I’m also excited to read more about Simon and Baz haha 🙂

  16. So many great books in this post! I also cried when reading Sadie. Now I have been recently getting into epic fantasy and really loved the first two Mistborn books. Are Mark Lawrence’s books similar to Brandon Sanderson’s? I haven’t read anything by him yet.
