Mid Year Freak Out Tag 2020

orangutan tag 2

Hi all! And it’s already June… LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT! Somehow 😉 It’s a bit of an annual tradition for me to do this tag, so I don’t need an invitation (aka I wasn’t tagged) I’m just gonna go for it!

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ YET IN 2020

ten thousand doors of january

There are quite a few contenders, but I have to go for the simply *exquisite* Ten Thousand Doors of January

BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2020

supernova

Supernova was such a satisfying conclusion! My review’s coming soon 😊

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO

aurora burning

I’m going with Aurora Burning because I loved the first ones and I *need* the next instalment!

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

invisible life of addie larue

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue just sounds so incredible! (and let’s be real, I’m a fan of Schwab’s writing, so it’s a must-read for me)

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

queen of ruin

Queen of Ruin– I just wanted to like this so much more than I did. And it’s the kind of book that I like even less when I think about it :/

BIGGEST SURPRISE

diviners

For pure enjoyment, I have to go with the Diviners series.

FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR

book of atrix wolfe

Patricia McKillip!

NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

enchantment of ravens

Honestly don’t have one, so I’m just gonna plug a (sort of romantic) book I really enjoyed: Enchantment of Ravens

 NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER

with the fire on high

Emony from With the Fire on High– she just felt so realistic and likeable to me.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

wild swans

I don’t think any book has made me cry (which is a bit of a change) but Wild Swans seriously moved me.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

bookish and the beast

Bookish and the Beast just MADE ME SO HAPPY!!!

FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION

ps I still love you

Hmm I think the only one I’ve watched is PS I Still Love You and it was cute (plus I preferred it to the book tbh).

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT THIS YEAR

Buying books? That’s a thing you can do?! LOL! Seriously though, I’ve not bought any books since lockdown and the ones I have got aren’t exactly beautiful- so I’m just gonna go with another anticipated release:

once and future witches

(that also happens to look so pretty!!!)

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

I’m being really chill about what I read right now, cos I just think mood reading is the way to go in this (crazy) year. But it’d be nice if I finally read:

Since this is an old one, I’m not tagging anyone specific- just feel free to do it if you like! What I wanna know is what’s your favourite book so far this year? And what are you most looking forward to? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Great collection of books here! I love the list.

My favorite book that I’ve read so far this year is Twelve Mighty Orphans by Jim Dent. The books I’m most looking forward to are Andy Andrews’ new book “Just Jones” coming in September, and there’s also a children’s book by Robb Pearlman coming in September called “The Office: A Day at Dunder Mifflin Elementary” that I think will be an enjoyable read.

  2. Man, best book of the year so far? I really don’t know. Most of my 5stars so far have all been re-reads :-/ In fact, I just looked and every single 5 and 4.5star book has been a re-read. But the Arcane Casebook series is probably my favorite so far.

I have NO idea what I’m looking forward too. Too much on my plate I guess.

  3. O DANG! So what I’m hearing is that I’m going to need to *actually* read Supernova? Message received.

Also, The Ten Thousand Doors of January. It’s *high* up on my importance list, but I don’t want to start it right at the moment because I have Empire of Gold coming in like, four days (hopefully). Also, I accidentally put like, four books on hold at the library, so those will probably all come tumbling in at the same time… MUST READ THIS YEAR. (I said the same thing last year…)

  4. I love this tag so much! I always enjoy reading everyone’s answers to it 😁 Addie LaRue is definitely my most anticipated release as well, Schwab never disappoints. Also, for some reason, I completely forgot about the new Ashley Poston book and now I need to get it ASAP.
    Lovely post!

  5. I want to read so many of the books in your post! The Ten Thousand Doors of January, Bookish and the Beast, and With the Fire on High are my priority books from your list, though. 🙂 Congrats on making it through June!

  6. I am happy that you are posting more often again. I hope that means that things have slowed down for you.

Honestly, this year has been so disorienting with so many ups and downs that I can’t even remember when I read all the books I did. And there have been so many good ones. I really loved The War of Art, so we’ll call that the Happy book. The one that came closest to making me cry? Probably The 6th Lamentation. Book I am most excited about? My own book </The Long Guest, which is right now with a copy editor. That is causing some wild emotions as you can imagine. Book I am looking forward to: The Quest for Cosmic Justice by Thomas Sowell, which arrived in the mail last week (was it really only last week?). Book I am dreading but must read: The Gulag Archipelago, which same.

  7. I’m 100% with you on Finnikin of the Rock. I’m pretty sure it’s made my ‘must read’ list for the last … two years? And I’ve owned for it for like 8… possibly longer? I got it when it first came out (although I have re-bought it since – yes, I’ve bought two copies of one book that I still haven’t read).

  8. Wild Swans was so good! I read it years ago, and last year gave it a re-read. It was amazing how life changed in China so thoroughly in a relatively short time frame.

  9. I agree with you about PS I Still Love You movie. I have been overall really happy with the adaptions thus far! I am curious to see the last one though, especially since it was my least favorite book in the series.

  10. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue sounds amazing! I seriously can’t wait for that book to come out. 🙂 I’m really hoping that you will love The Lies of Locke Lamora, as it is one of my all time favourite books.
