Hello all! Keeping up with the theme of escapism, I thought I’d take you all on a quick ride through some fantastic fantasy stories. I was tagged eons and eons ago by the brilliant Katie @Never Not Reading and the great Joelendil– both are fantasy buffs, so I highly recommend checking them out if you need amazing recommendations and want to read thoughtful reviews in this genre!

5-Star Book
Ten Thousand Doors of January– I know, I know, I never shut up about how this transported me, how it was beautifully written and how I loved how it explored different relationships… but just can’t get over how good this was!!
Always Going to Recommend
Discworld– because it’s funny and I’m certain there’s (at least) one book in there for everyone! If you want a twist on traditional witchy tales, then go for the Witches stories. If you need subverted fantasy tropes, give the City Watch stories a try. And if you just need eccentric and bonkers, then go for the Death books! Etcetera Etcetera! (there are basically a million reasons to try Terry Pratchett!)
Own It But Haven’t Read
Oof so many!! I’m gonna go with Lies of Locke Lamora and Finnikin of the Rock because I’ve heard such incredible things about them (and can’t believe I haven’t got to them yet!). Oh and let’s throw in my more recent purchase of Thorn– just to add to my growing tbr guilt!
Would Read it Again
I’m definitely planning on doing a reread of Sabriel at some point! (hopefully soon!) I think it might be good for an autumnal read.
In Another World
For me, it’s gotta be another favourite and that’s the world of His Dark Materials. Yes, it seems like our world, but it’s very, very different. After all, we don’t have armoured bears, witches and daemons… and we’re missing out!
Back on Earth
Neverwhere– I just love the way Gaiman magically recreates our world and shows us the wonder that hides in plain sight!
This tag has been around for so long, it’s almost legendary at this point, so I’m not tagging anyone specific- just consider yourself tagged if you’d like to do it! And I’d love your top, newest fantasy recs! Let me know in the comments!
I always think I’m going to reread Sabriel and never get around it. 😦

Discworld has been on my to read list for so long that I wonder if it’s ever going to disappear from it. Fun post to read, and of course it only helped in adding even more books to that never ending list 😂

Lies of Locke Lamora is one I need to read eventually. Daniel Green on booktube highly recommends it and he has pretty good taste. I read the first couple of chapters awhile back and it was pretty good. It was just due back at the library before I could finish it

And I definitely want to read The Ten Thousand Doors of January!
I loved His Dark Materials. I started rereading them in January, and I’m on The Amber Spyglass now.

Oh man, Lies of Locke Lamora is one I own and need to get to eventually, too.
Newest fantasy recs, huh? Well, I just finished Rachel Aaron’s DFZ trilogy, and really enjoyed that. It’s urban fantasy, if that’s your thing. If you prefer Asian-inspired fantasy with magic, I also liked Aliette de Bodard’s In The Vanishers’ Palace, which is a f/f Beauty & the Beast retelling with dragons.

I just watched the tv adaptation of His Dark Materials and absolutely ADORED it. Like ugh SO SO SO amazing. So have been really eyeing the books, just a bit apprehensive because I’ve heard like average things. Especially about the new ones. Also, I would please like a daemon, that’d be amazing hehe
