Sunshine Blogger Award #2!!

Happy (Easter) Sunday- hope you’re all having a nice relaxing day! It’s been raining non stop today- so what better way to bring a little sunshine into my life than to do this tag 😉 Thanks so much to the incredible Napoleon Split and Eve Messenger for nominating me to do this!!

The Award Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you!
  • Answer the 11 questions you were asked.
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers and let them know they were nominated.
  • Ask the nominees 11 questions

Napoleon Split’s Questions:

  1. What is one of your favourite words? Why?

Pontificate- because I just love the sound of pon-ti-fi-cat-ing :p

  1. What is the third book on your bookshelf (from the left)?

The Great Fairytale Tradition

great fairy tale tradition

  1. What was your favourite childhood series?

Well I had different ones at different ages, but Harry Potter was the first.

  1. What book would you recommend to everyone to read?

Ooh that’s hard- a book for everyone? Picture of Dorian Grey I reckon, cos it’s one I tend to recommend to people who don’t read much. It’s got a bit of everything: colourful characters, humour, descriptiveness, drama and villainy.

  1. If you could see any band in the world in concert, who would you see?

The Beatles! Although… they’re not exactly around anymore… What? No one specified that I couldn’t time travel in this question.

  1. Name your favourite bookstore to visit.

I’m gonna be totally boring for a change and go with Waterstones- the one in Picadilly- cos it’s pretty much the only bookshop in London that’s guaranteed to have whatever I want (well, it is the biggest in Europe).

  1. Name three book to movie (or miniseries) adaptations that you love.

Okay, gonna go full on old school here cos sometimes I just roll that way: East of Eden, Rebecca and Great Expectations.

  1. If you could invite any author over for tea, who would you choose?

Oscar Wilde! He’d be so entertaining! We’d have such a laugh! (I’m talking pre-Reading Gaol days of course- he might be a bit of a downer after that). (Again time travel wasn’t specifically disallowed for this question)

  1. Name one way in which the blogging community has changed your life.

One way? That’s so difficult! I guess it’s made me get out of my comfort zone on the internet and actually put myself out there for a change!

  1. If you could live anywhere, where would you live?

Mars. Mark Watney style. The only issue is that I’m not a botanist (well, that’s not strictly speaking the only issue…)

mars surface.jpg

  1. What is your favorite book that falls into the genre of mystery/thriller?

Great question! That’s not something I read so often, but I can tell you I liked Engleby a lot when I read it.

 Eve’s Questions:

  1. What are three things that make you laugh?

Seinfeld, Seinfeld and Seinfeld. Nah I’m kidding- it’s Seinfeld, Larry David and Curb Your Enthusiasm :p

  1. What’s your favourite daydream?

I *love* daydreaming about my characters in bizarre situations- cos I’m weird that way.

  1. Would you rather have the power to shapeshift or to make yourself invisible?

Shapeshift!! I mean, how cool would it be to turn into a bird or a cat or a dragon? (obviously, there would be no point transforming into a monkey- I’m already a monkey).

  1. What’s one of your favourite stupid pun jokes? (Example: “Why did Adele cross the road? To say hello from the other side.”)

Haha that’s a good one! I like fangtastic puns about vampires and ghoulish ones about ghosts. Can’t think of any actual jokes off the top of my head.

  1. Do you like stickers?

Not especially

  1. What’s your favourite social media and why?

I use Facebook the most- but to be honest I have more of a love-hate relationship with it. Especially since they keep adding new features.

facebook dislike

  1. Do you sleep with the light on or off?

  1. If you performed in a talent show, what would your talent be?

Haha this made me laugh, cos I am not the kind of person that performs in talent shows- my skills aren’t exactly the kind of thing you can make a performance of- I imagine standing up in front of an audience going “look I drew a picture” :p

  1. Have you ever handwritten a letter? If yes, to whom did you mail it and when?

Yes I did actually- when my sister went on a gap year, we wrote letters to each other. The only issue is the mail was so bad that we barely got any letters across to each other. In the end we just went back to facebooking, but it was nice while it lasted.

  1. What’s your favourite thing to do with friends?

Loads of things! Most of them involve talking!

  1. Big or small, what’s something you’ve done that you’re really proud of?

Well today I woke up at 10 am- which I was pleased about cos the clocks went forward and usually I sleep in till 1 or 2 when that happens. Obviously that was a BIG thing I’m proud of :p

My Questions:

  1. If time travelling was an option, which historical figure would you most like to meet?
  2. And who would you like to meet if it wasn’t an option?
  3. When daydreaming about time travelling (c’mon we all do it!) do you worry about the butterfly effect?
  4. What are your feelings about James Bond?
  5. If you were a spy, what gadget would you most like to have?
  6. Would you make a good international superspy or a bad one? Why?
  7. How often do you fly in dreams?
  8. If you could reinvent the world- what colour would you make the sky?
  9. If you’d been born in the dark ages, do you reckon you’d have believed the earth was flat?
  10. On a scale of one to ten, how surreal do you feel like these questions are getting?
  11. I’ve run out of questions- do ten star jumps!

Real Neat Blog Award

mrs doubtfire hello

Yeah, I’m in a funny mood :p And sadly, no, this post has nothing to do with Mrs Doubtfire. I am just excited to do this tag! Thanks so much to Betwixt These Pages and Eve Messenger for nominating me for this award- they’re both awesome so you should definitely check them out?

1. Thank and link the blogger that nominated you.

2. Answer the 7 questions that the nomination has provided you.

3. Create 7 questions for your nominees.

4. Nominate 7 other bloggers.

1. Sometimes a book grows on us long after we’re done reading it, and we realize it was actually much better than when we first rated it. Has this happened to you, and which book was it?
Ooh that’s an excellent question- I often change my ratings on goodreads. Often I can be more generous to books, and then end up lowering my rating. But I also increase ratings from time to time. I think sappy romances tend to get a generic three star rating, but I’ll increase it later if I actually enjoyed it, like I did with Second Chance Summer.

second chance summer

2. What’s the scariest novel you’ve ever read?

Well I’m a bit of a scaredy cat, so I found Breathe (a children’s book) terrifying.

3. What is the most boring book you ever had to read for school?

Ooh that’s a great question- I’m not a big reader of non-fiction and I had to read some incredibly dry ones for University. The dumbest thing I ever read was Saussure- not a fan.

4. Do you speak more than language? If so, which ones?

Nope- sadly not. I’ve tried to brush up on my French after doing it for GCSE, but I don’t have enough patience.

5. Have you ever had a dream in which a book character appeared?

Yeah loads- funniest dream I ever had was when Saruman convinced me that he was not really the bad guy. Later, after Saruman had killed loads of people and was still running round with orcs, Aragorn said to me “how could you?”- and it was only at that point I realised I might have made a mistake- whoops! All this took place in my old primary school. Yeah, sometimes my dreams get weird…

6. What are the next three books on your TBR list?
Ahh my tbr is such a long list- I’m probably gonna write a whole post on it- but for now it includes Shadow of the Wind, followed by any one of the gazillion books I own but haven’t read yet (haha I know I didn’t make it to three, but can only give 20 on a list or none at all)

shadow of the wind

7. When you think of your favourite books, what are the first two to come to mind?

peter pan and wendy

And this:

  1. What’s your favourite Robin Williams movie? (ah look at me making this relevant to my random tangent!)
  2. In keeping with the weird theme, what’s your favourite story/book/movie where someone does a Mrs Doubtfire and dresses up as someone they’re not?
  3. I’m running out of questions related to Mrs Doubtfire…  Turn your itunes on shuffle- and “Jump Around” (the song at the beginning of the movie) to whatever song comes on- report results!
  4. Okay, now for a change of topic- who’s your favourite comedian?
  5. Barring Shakespeare and the Bible- which book would you say was most important to save in the event of the apocalypse?
  6. For Harry Potter fans: what do you think the boggart would turn into if you encountered it? For everyone else: what’s your biggest fear?
  7. Voldemort has just confessed his love for you, saying you are the only person that has ever managed to convince him that love exists- what do you say back to him?

Encouraging Thunder Award

Ahh we all made it to the end of the week. What a relief! Thanks so much to the awesome Paper Dragon who nominated me for this way back in January!

– Thank the person who nominated you.
– Post the Encouraging Thunder logo.
– Mention your purpose in blogging.
– Nominate others for the award.

Why I blog

Because I love books! I am completely obsessed- I love reading them, writing about them and talking to other people about them. I just cannot hold in all the *feels*. Sometimes I want to shout that love from the rooftops. And sometimes I want to rant and rave about them. Blogging is the perfect way to deal with all that surplus emotion. Basically, to sum up: “I read therefore I blog”.

I nominate:

Rosypop, Trust in the Words, Quirky Book Nerd, Books and Bakes, Analee, Diana Prince Reviews, Dreaming Through Literature, Calliope, emdoesbookreviews, Ebony Monaes Thoughts

Creative Blogger Award #2

The awesome Codie nominated me for this a while back- so thank you very much!- if you haven’t checked out Reader’s Anonymous yet, you can do so here, here and here (you seriously should- it’s fantastic!)

  • Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  • Share 5 facts about yourself.
  • Nominate some bloggers in return and notify them about their nomination.
  • Keep the rules in your post to make it easy for everyone to know what to do.

  1. My sister has started to sing in her sleep- she thinks it’s cool- I think it’s a little creepy
  2. My favourite member of the Beatles was George Harrison. Someone said to me once “everyone says that when they’re trying to be original”- my answer to that is “if I wanted to be “original” I’d say Ringo Star”.
  3. I love songs you can singalong to- especially Disney and musicals
  4. If you watch a musical with me, there’s a good chance I will sing over it
  5. At the moment, I can’t stop listening to Brahms’ Hungarian Dance. Every time I listen to it I keep picturing Basil Faulty saying “it’s Brahms third racket!”

  1. Why do you like your favourite book?

Well, let’s assume my favourite book is Peter Pan- in which case it’s cos it speaks to me.

  1. What makes someone a fangirl?

I really don’t know- authors creating incredible things I guess!

  1. Do you have any fandom merch or anything? If so, show us.

I have an Alethiometer- cos I’m a massive Pullman fan- isn’t it pretty:

And look- there’s Dust on it and everything (if you got that reference then I’m impressed- give yourself a gold star!)

  1. What is the best thing about books?

How you can get lost in them

My Nominations:

Marwhal Reads

Books and Bakes

Bitches with Books

My Questions:

  1. What’s your favourite fandom?
  2. What book/series/character etc do you fangirl over the most?
  3. What book series has a massive fanbase, but you couldn’t get on board with it?
  4. (Totally stealing Keira’s question cos it’s a good one) Do you have any fandom merch? Please share photos!

Liebster Award Bumper Post!

Hi all! Gosh it’s been a looonnng week- and that’s unfortunately kept me away from WordPress- did you miss me? :p I have had the absolute honour of being nominated for *4* Liebster Awards, so I’m going to make up for my absence by making a bumper post with them all! Watch out- cos this is gonna be a big one!

Thank you so much to Nut Free Nerd, Amidst the Pages, My Books Opinion Site, bookbubblebee.

Now let’s get to it! Here are the rules:

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you
  • Nominate 11 bloggers that you think are deserving of the award
  • Let the bloggers know you nominated them
  • Give them 11 questions of your own

Nut Free Nerd’s Questions:

  1. Put your music on shuffle. What are the first five songs that come up?

This could really backfire, cos I have some really weird stuff on my Itunes. Ok, let’s do this… Ooh I’m actually pleased to share this:

  1. What’s the last thing that made you laugh really hard?

Curb Your Enthusiasm! Cos it’s pretty, pretty, pretty good:

  1. What’s something you did in 2015 that you’re proud of?

Finished my degree

  1. What’s one thing you hope to accomplish in 2016?

Lots of things- not sure yet what I’ll consider an accomplishment till the year is out…

  1. Do you enjoy going to concerts? If so, what was the last one you went to?

Love them! I went to this Nina Nesbitt concert recently (actually she wasn’t the headliner- but I wasn’t really interested in the main person)

  1. What is one of your favourite quotes?

Might have used this one before, but how’s this one:

  1. What is the weirdest food you like?

Erm is any food weird? I don’t know, if I like it, I don’t really think of it as weird. How about chopped liver (pate)- I love that stuff- is that sufficiently weird?

  1. What book has made you cry the hardest?

I sobbed my eyes out the whole way through Heir of Fire- cos even when good things were happening, it was like going through an emotional blenderHeir-of-Fire-UK

  1. What was the best day of your life?

Ho ho- I don’t know if I can answer that!

  1. What fictional world would you love to live in (or at least spend some time in)?

Middle Earth!

middle earth map.jpg

  1. If you could meet any author (living or dead), who would it be?

Oscar Wilde- he would be such fun!

Amidst the Pages’ Questions:

  1. What is your favourite book? Why? (Only one)

Only one??? Well I guess, my favourite story from childhood, and consequently the book that means the most to me, is Peter Pan.

peter pan and wendy

  1. How long does it take you to read a 400-page book?

Depends on the book!

  1. Have you ever tried writing a story? If yes, title?

Yup- I’ve written loads of short stories and 4 books. Titles are not my forte, but since you’re asking, my first novel is called Enchantress (I know- super original, but I swear when I wrote it, there were no other books with that name!)

  1. Have you ever tried giving a book one star or none at all and reviewing it? What did you feel?

Oh I do that all the time when I hate books. I’d actually prefer not to- cos I’d actually prefer to only read awesome books

  1. How important is the cover of the book?

Not that important- though I can definitely appreciate a pretty cover when I see it. Case and point:

thousand pieces of you

  1. You read based on what?

Based on the fact I love it!

  1. Can you listen to music while reading? If your answer is yes, or no, why?

I do that all the time, cos I read on my way to work and I need to listen to something to block out the noise of the tube (aka the London Underground for everyone outside the UK).

  1. What book genre do you enjoy or reading most?

Pff depends on my mood. Sorry that’s no answer at all.

  1. First person’s POV, or third person’s POV? Why?

Either- sorry again, that’s not really an answer either.

  1. Have you ever lent someone your book? Did you set rules?

Yup- when you’re finished- give it back!

  1. How do you obtain your ebooks?

My Book’s Opinions Sites’ Questions:

  1. How many books do you read per week and what is your goal for this year?

One or two- and I don’t have a goal. I felt like that would’ve been too much pressure cos I did remarkably well last year and I don’t think I’ll have the chance to read as many- but at the same time I don’t want to set a goal that’s lower than the number I read this year!

  1. How many book boyfriends do you have?

Too many to count!

  1. What are the books that you are ashamed that you didn’t read?

Ermm I guess I would like to read War and Peace one day and am ashamed that I’ve ruled it out for the foreseeable future.

  1. What would you do if your friend lost a book that you lent to her/him?

Cry… Just kidding! I dunno, ask for another copy or just let it go. If it meant that much to me, I probably wouldn’t have lent it. So yeah, most likely I would…

let it go

  1. What is a book that you loved but hated the movie adaptation?

So many! Probably the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had with any movie is the Hobbit trilogy- which I did a whole rant about here.

hobbit movie

  1. What book describes you the most? Why?

I really don’t know… Peter Pan maybe?

  1. What books made you stay up all night to finish it?

Haha most books that are 3* and up can get me reading them through the night!

  1. If you had to choose between walking and reading, what would you choose?

I would do both simultaneously. In fact I have done both simultaneously- many times- on main roads. What? I’m not saying it’s smart- but it just… happens. Especially when you’ve just got a great book out the library and are walking home… It’s kind of an occupational hazard of being a reader…

  1. What character would you want to be?

Myself 😉 Or Smaug- just look at that face…

  1. Did you ever cry in public while reading a book?

Yup- I’d say not a full on sob- but I just remembered that I was out in public when I read the finale to the His Dark Materials trilogy- and who can resist sobbing over that book?

amber spyglass

  1. A character that you want to punch in the face?

Oh so many! How about Jacinda from Firelight- cos I don’t think I’ve mentioned my hatred for that book before. Grrr now I think about it, I want to punch all the characters in that book- does it count if I want to punch the author? Just kidding! (sort of)

Bookbubblebee’s questions:

  1. What is your favourite type of junk food?

You mean apart from chocolate? Chocolate, obviously :p

  1. What inspired you to start a blog?

Well I’ve given a full synopsis of it before, but reading to sum up reading Captain Corelli’s Mandolin- because I hated it and needed to vent about it afterwards. You can read my (very ranty) review here.

  1. Dog or cat person?

Depends on my mood- at the moment I’m more of a dog person- I mean just look at this face:

  1. Would you consider yourself a passionate or passive reader?

  1. Are you the type to keep your resolutions or break them?

I keep them- but I don’t tend to do them at New Years’

My Questions:

  1. I’m stealing Nut Free Nerd’s Question- put your music on shuffle- what comes up?
  2. What’s your favourite Disney song?
  3. Who’s your favourite Disney villain?
  4. What’s the weirdest book you’ve ever read?
  5. Who’s your oddest book crush?
  6. What’s the best excuse you’ve ever given?
  7. What’s the worst job interview question you’ve ever had? If you’ve never had a job interview- what’s the most random question you’ve ever been asked? (not including this one)
  8. What is your favourite sport? (either to watch or play)
  9. What’s the best bad thing you’ve ever eaten? (aka a desert that was so disgustingly bad that you felt guilty but delighted about having eaten it)
  10. Write a poem detailing your love for your favourite food.
  11. Okay, at the risk of making this all about food, would you rather only ever be able to eat your favourite food for the rest of your life or eat whatever you want *except* your favourite food?

Okay, in case it isn’t really obvious, I’m really hungry… so I’m gonna go get myself something to eat!

Phew- that was a long one! If you stuck around for this whole post then ta very much!

Infinity Dreams Award #2

Thank you to Codie for nominating me and an especial thank you to Reinreads– I know I told I probably wouldn’t get round to this- but let’s face it, if you nominate/tag me for something, it may take months for me to get to it, but I can’t resist doing it in the end!

infinity dreams award

  1. Thank and follow the blog that nominated you
  2. Tell us 11 facts about yourself
  3. Answer the questions that were set for you to answer
  4. Nominate 11 bloggers and set questions for them

  1. Hmm if something interesting doesn’t happen to me fast, I’m gonna have to come out with things like “I’m 5ft5 and female”
  2. I once met Richard Curtis- which was interesting- but I was pretty star-struck, so I didn’t say anything- which was not so interesting
  3. I also got a hug off Bernard Hill once- which was nuts.
  4. On a different note, I really suck at directions
  5. Consequently, I got lost ten minutes from my house the other day
  6. And five minutes from my work :/
  7. I tend to panic if I don’t know where I am- which doesn’t help
  8. Other than that, I’m pretty good in an emergency
  9. For example, my oven caught fire last year, but I kept a cool head- I just filled up a bucket of water and dumped water on it.
  10. Speaking of fires, when one did happen in my building when I was in first year of uni, and the fire alarm woke me up in the middle of the night, I just got out of bed and left without taking anything. It was only after that I realised I had the answer to that question: what would you take if your building burned down? Turns out, for me it’s nothing.
  11. I say I woke up- in reality I slept through the alarm and my flatmate had to come in and wake me up. So probably the reason I didn’t take anything is cos I wasn’t really concious.

ReinReads’ Questions:

  1. What’s your favorite Christmas song?

Easily this one by the Pogues:

  1. Who’s your favorite fictional character?

I don’t have one- but at the moment I’m loving Baz from Carry On

  1. Are you more of a morning or a night person?

  1. What instantly reminds you of your childhood?

The Beatles! (And no, I was not born in the 70s, it just happened to be something my mum played a lot on the school run)

  1. Is there a book you reread every year?

I used to reread The Hobbit every year- but my copy is stuck in storage and I haven’t been able to get to it for a while- *sobs*

  1. Where do you buy your books?

Either second hand online, Waterstones, Book Depository, charity shops or Amazon

  1. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

Egypt- I’ve always been fascinated by the mummies.

  1. What’s on your wishlist for Christmas?

  1. What’s your favorite movie?

I don’t have one- but I do always feel like Lord of the Rings are my happy movies- so I suppose that’s sort of the same thing.

  1. What makes you feel better when you’re feeling down?

  1. What do you like best about yourself?

Aww that’s a nice question- but also really embarrassing to answer on the internet- my imagination and creativity I suppose *blushes*

Codie’s Questions:

  1. Would you rather only read your favourite book for the rest of your life, or read  different books except your favorite book?

Different books! I’m not much of a rereader at the moment (but I have been in the past- so if this actually happens I might regret this answer).

  1. Do you judge books by their cover?

  1. Physical books or ebooks?

Physical! (Although I am still a fan of ebooks for making my life easier)

  1. Do you pre-order?

  1. Favourite heroine-hero duo (movie, tv series, or book)?

I don’t know if they’re my favourite, but I’ve always liked Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs

  1. Least favourite genre?

Hmm well I usually say Sci Fi, but having read the Martian recently, I don’t know if I can still say that.

  1. Biggest pet peeve in books?

Pretentious drivel- I actually hate that more than poorly written trash- cos I hate things that are too try-hard.

  1. Have you ever felt a special connection with a protagonist before? If so, what book?

Loads of times! Honestly- one of the reasons I loved Isla and the Happily Ever After so much is because I related to the main character so much. The same is true of Cress and Daniel Deronda– don’t know what that says about my life- maybe someone out there is gonna piece that all together and come up with something?

  1. What is a book you love that everyone else hates?

I don’t know if everyone hates it per se, but I do know a lot of people think Isla and the Happily Ever After is the weakest in Stephanie Perkins’ series- but it’s my favourite!

  1. Favourite book turned movie?

Another hard one! I love Shawshank Redemption- but I’ve not read the book so I don’t know if it counts for this.

  1. Are you participating in any reading challenges this year? If so, which ones?

Maybe, haven’t really decided.

I nominate:

My Questions:

  1. What’s the weirdest dream you’ve ever had?
  2. What’s the most disappointing book you’ve ever read?
  3. What are your biggest book pet peeves?
  4. Cats or dogs?
  5. What song makes you happiest?
  6. What’s your favourite “happy” movie?
  7. Ever met anyone famous?
  8. What’s your favourite planet? (can anyone tell I’m running out of questions- it’s been a long week)
  9. I dare you to stand up and do the macarena!
  10. Not including reading, what’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
  11. If you could only ever read one book you’ve never read before and one book you have read to read for the rest of your life- what would they be?

Now for the questions. I wasn’t really sure which one’s to do from Zezee’s post, so I just picked Carolina’s (the award creator) original questions:

  1. If you describe or picture your inner soul, how will you describe it?

Bright orange and fluffy- like an orangutan

  1. What are you working on right now?

I’m working on my 4th novel (5th if you include novellas). It’s been going slower than the others, cos I’ve been busy, but other than that I’m happy with it (well as happy as any writer ever is with their work *cue writer’s angst*).

  1. What is your creative dream project?

Well I could say a lot of things for this. I have about three- I’d love to finish the trilogy I’m working on and move on to some of my other projects. One of my ideas is for a graphic novel, so I’d love if that would happen some day. But I think one of my most unlikely dream projects, and probably why it will always just be a “dream”, is to create huge paintings of some of my characters. I’ve started making collages for some of them, but right now, this is still just a pipe dream.

Zezee’s questions:

  1. Suppose you had to write a retelling of a fairy tale, which fairy tale would you choose? Name one thing in that fairy tale that you would alter.

Hmm this is really hard. I’m gonna cheat with this one, cos my novella that I mentioned above, was a retelling of fairytales. So I’m gonna just say my favourite change- which was taking Hansel and Gretel and making them evil (not that the witch was suddenly a nice cannibal, but they were cannibals too).

  1. What’s your favourite quote?

I don’t really have a favourite. There’s two I quite like:

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”

“Revenge is a dish best served published!”

  1. Is there a story or poem you often turn to when you’re feeling down? What is it?

Erm I don’t really have anything specific. I like to listen to music when I’m down- which you could say is a type of poetry and totally counts. What I end up listening to totally depends, but most likely it’ll be this:

My Nominations:

Bright Little Story Lover

Quirky Book Nerd

A Frolic Through Fiction

My questions:

  1. What song cheers you up when you’re down?
  2. Who is your favourite role model?
  3. What book world would you most like to live in?

Feel free to answer any of the questions below- I’d love to see your answers. See you tomorrow (hopefully) for another tag!

Frolic Through Fictions’ Questions…

  1. Is there a fictional character you wouldn’t want to meet? Who?

bellatrix-lestrange-4Quite a few- I don’t reckon I’d enjoy meeting Voldemort for one thing. But, sticking with the Harry Potter theme, I think I’d like to meet Bellatrix Lestrange even less! (I’d actually like to meet Doloros Umbridge, if only to punch her)

  1. Do you own any bookish merchandise? (Badges, jewelry, posters etc)

game of thrones posterSort of- I have a collection of bookish/fairytale jewellery- but none of it is what you’d call “official” merchandise. Oh and I have a Game of Thrones poster that I don’t use. Does that count?

  1. Is there a book/ series you think is overrated?

Atonement_(novel)Loads! I have a whole post about it. I’m gonna say something that’s not on the list (to make it interesting). How about Atonement by Ian McEwan- I enjoyed the film, but hated the book. This is gonna be an unpopular opinion, but I think McEwan is overrated in general. I think he’s very accomplished at structuring books, but his characters always leave a lot to be desired.

  1. If you could travel back in time to any time period, which would you go to?

gatsbyWithout a shadow of a doubt, I’d head to the 1920s to meet Fitzgerald and go to a Gatsby-style party.

  1. Are there any fictional character names you really love?

Loads- I could have chosen so many for this, but I think some of the best names in literature are probably in Dickens. I mean, he has characters like Mr Bumble, Gradgrind and Tulkinghorn, to name a few!

  1. Are you setting yourself a Goodreads reading challenge for next year? If so, how many books do you hope to read?

Well- it’s already the next year and I haven’t done that- so I guess not.

  1. Favourite bookshop?

Any! I love Waterstones, but I also like more random ones you just stumble across.

  1. If you could have any character’s clothing style, which character would you choose?throneofglass series

Ermm I don’t know- Celaena Sardothien I guess, because she has her assassin outfits, but she also knows how to dress up- which I love.

  1. When you review books, do you write notes while you read it or just think back when writing the review?

I usually jot down a few notes. But not always.

  1. How did you get into reading?

Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosopher's_Stone_Book_CoverWell, I can always remember reading, but like so many people I started really reading when my friend recommended Harry Potter to me way back when I was 7. I started reading the first three in quick succession- I was hooked from then on!

Book Adventures’ Questions…

  1. Favourite book of 2015?

There are so many- it’s so hard to choose! I hardly managed to narrow it down to 10 in my Top 10 of 2015, how can I manage to narrow it down to just one? It’s between Memoirs of a Geisha, Man’s Search For Meaning and Carry On- three very different, but very brilliant books.

  1. Best movie you’ve seen in 2015?

I really don’t know- I’ve not seen that many new movies in 2015 and can’t think of anything- which is a shame, cos I love movies :/v

  1. Are you going to participate in any reading challenges in 2016?

I really don’t know- gosh these questions are going well- aren’t they!Invisible

  1. How many books are currently on your TBR?

I’m just gonna use Goodreads for this- cos if I combine it with my amazon one, it’ll just be embarassing. Let me just look… 184…. Yeah, that’s still embarrassing.

  1. How many books do you want to read next year?

Well, I’ve not set myself any goals, but as I said in my Bookish Resolutions post, I’d rather read fewer books this year than last year, but read more good quality books. I think I’d be happy with a modest 60- but don’t quote me on that!

  1. If you could have one fictional animal as your pet, what would it be?

Dragon. I don’t care if it’s practical- I just love dragons (and I’m thinking more mother of dragons, than Hagrid getting his beard singed)

mother of dragons

  1. What was the last book you read? Would you recommend it? Why, why not?

the martianAt the time of writing this, it’s The Martian. I would definitely recommend it! I’m gonna do a review for this shortly, but to summarise, because it’s awesome!

  1. If you could date a fictional character, who would you date and why?

Poison-Study-new-UKI’m gonna go with Valek from Poison Study

  1. If you could pick any three books to have right now, what would they be?

I’m assuming this isn’t books I don’t already have. And they would be these ones, because I’ve been meaning to get them forever, but they’re harder to get hold of for some reason

  1. What bookish gift would you like to receive this Christmas? (that’s not a book)

Boy did I miss the boat with this one… I don’t actually do Christmas, but the bookish gifts I like that are non-books are necklaces from Etsy.

Quirky Book Nerds’ Questions…

  1. What are some new releases you are most looking forward to in 2016?

heartlessThere are quite a few- I’m gonna go with Heartless cos I’ve already mentioned others enough times- plus the cover was recently released- isn’t it pretty?

  1. What is your favourite under-hyped book?

hitler's canariesI did a whole post about this, so it’s really hard to pick just one. I’m gonna go with Hitler’s Canaries because it’s an absolutely incredible book about hope in WW2- and somehow it’s only got 692 ratings on goodreads.

  1. What is one thing (activity, song, movie, etc…) that always makes you happy no matter what?

Well there are quite a few answers to this- I’m gonna go with dancing (not in a coordinated fashion of course), LOTR always makes me happy and I’m gonna choose

  1. Do you prefer series or standalone novels?

Ahh impossible question- I’m gonna go with standalones just cos I don’t have to wait between books for a resolution

  1. Do you play video games? If so, what are your favorite games to play?

Nope- I think the most I’ve ever done is play Sims or Rollercoaster Tycoon. Oh and this indie one called Kudos. But all that was years ago

  1. What is your favourite song of all time?

What an impossible question! I don’t have an answer- this has been in my head since last week though:

  1. If you could have any fictional animal as a pet, what would you choose?

I’ve said dragon before to this- but it’s still a dragon. They’re my favourite mythical creature and that’s never gonna change.

  1. What 2016 movies are you most looking forward to seeing?

  1. What book or series would you recommend to someone who says they don’t like to read, and why would you choose that book or series?

I don’t know what I’d recommend to someone that didn’t like to read. Maybe something like Picture of Dorian Gray cos it’s short *and* brilliant.

  1. What is your absolute favourite quote?

I’m not much for quotes, but I like this one:

“’Beauty is truth, truth beauty,’ – that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”

My Nominations:

pickle books

dreamy addictions

books and bakes

art and soul
