Finally Fall Tag!

autumn monkey 2

Hello all! Yes, I know we’re quickly moving into the winter season, but fall’s not finished yet… Thank you so much to the wonderful Witty and Sarcastic Book Club for tagging me- she’s one of the friendliest book bloggers out there, always has fantastic insight and amazing recommendations- highly recommend you check her out!

In Fall, the air is crisp and clear. Name a book with a vivid setting.

winternight bear

The Winternight Trilogy– I just adore that Russian setting. And, as the nights get cooler, it’s perfect for this time of year!

Nature is beautiful…but also dying. Name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic, like loss or grief.

astonishing colour of after

The Astonishing Colour of After– it’s a bit heavy on the purple prose, but it’s powerfully vivid and covers the topic of grief in a really unique way.

Fall is Back to School Season. Name a Nonfiction Book that Taught You Something.

Gulag Archipelago, 3 volumes

I don’t read a huge amount of Non-Fiction but the Gulag Archipelago taught me *a lot* about the Soviet Union.

In order to keep warm, it’s good to spend some time with the people we love. Name a fictional family/household/friend-group that you’d love to be a part of.

my harry potters

Okay, I’m gonna try and not steal the Weasley family answer, buuuut it’s hard to come up with something different! So, I’m gonna stick with the Harry Potter theme and say the Marauders. *Phew* *wipes sweat off brow* just about got away with that 😉

The colourful leaves are piling up on the ground. Show us a pile of Autumn-coloured spines.

autumn spines

Fall is the perfect time for some storytelling by the fireside. Share a book wherein somebody is telling a story.

name of the wind

The first book that came to mind was Name of the Wind– which I feel weird about picking cos I wasn’t a fan of the sequel… buuuut it’s really the perfect book for this, since the narrative structure and distinctive storytelling style makes this a stellar read! (hopefully the third and final book, whenever it comes out, will be a return to form)

The nights are getting darker. Share a dark, creepy read.

the woman in black

Well, if you’re looking to be properly *creeped out* then you can’t go wrong with the Woman in Black!

The days are getting colder. Name a short, heart-warming read that could warm up somebody’s cold and rainy day.

secret countess

Anything by Eva Ibbotson- though I’d particularly recommend the Secret Countess.

Fall returns every year. Name an old favourite that you’d like to return to soon.

So many. There were a few I wanted to reread this year, but never got to. I hope to reread Sabriel (just cos it’s amazing). And I also wanted to reread His Dark Materials before the new adaptation came out (which I’m LOVING btw!!!), but that didn’t happen. I also plan to reread the first Mistborn series, so I can finally have the pleasure of bingeing the entire series. Problem is, I’m a massive mood reader, so it’s really anyone’s guess what I’ll read next 😉

Because Fall is basically over, I’m just gonna tag a few people, but feel free to do it if you want to!

Tagging: Jennifer @Bookmark Your Thoughts, CJR the Brit, the Green Tea Librarian, Sam @Rivermoose Reads, Journey into Books and Keira @Headphones and Hyperbole

And that’s all for now? What book gives you autumnal vibes? Let me know in the comments!

Are you ready for sweater weather? Tag!

orangutan tag 2

Hello all! Brr it’s getting cold out- which means it’s time for me to cosy up with a tag 😉 Thank you so much to the lovely Journey into Books for tagging me to do this one!

Hot Chocolate – What is your comfort book?

carry on

Carry On– it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Pumpkin Carving – What is your favourite creative outlet?

monkey typewriter

Writing. I’ve always loved telling stories, though I don’t really do short stories or poetry anymore, so it’s novels all the way!

Falling Leaves – Changes that appear bad but you secretly love?

Gosh this is a hard question! I guess you could say I’m a walking contradiction here, because I’ve never been a fan of change, and yet I love fresh starts. While it makes me super antsy, I do like the feeling of trying something new.

Pumpkin Spiced Latte – Something you love that other people judge

This is a hard one to narrow down, cos I’m 99.9% eccentric, so there’s a lot… The one I get called on the most for is *lowers voice to a whisper* I occasionally like listening to random religious music even though I’m not religious. After the fire Notre Dame I could not stop listening to French hymns for instance… (this is my jam 😉 ) My friends (a lot of whom are religious) think I’m barmy. Moving swiftly on…

Bonfire Night – what makes you explode with joy?

*BOOKS*

Fright Night – Favourite scary book or movie

I don’t realllly do scary. Especially not scary movies!!! So (and don’t laugh) it’s Hocus Pocus.

sanderson sisters

Halloween candy – Favourite thing to eat

Oh dear, you bring up food and I’m just gonna be like…

*I like everything*

Can’t ever go wrong with chocolate though!

chocolate

Scarves – Your autumn ‘must have’ accessory

Gloves- cos I’ve got bad circulation in my hands (I know, you were expecting a rock n’ roll answer, but I think we’ve established, I’m not that cool 😉)

Fire – A book or film that burns your soul

persuasion

Just one?!!?! That is the hardest question!! I’m going with Persuasion– because that romance is *emotional*- but also feel really set upon with that question!

Toffee apples – a book or film that seems to one thing but really has a different inside

eleanor oliphant is completely fine

I’m going to go with a more positive answer- I had the feeling that Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine was going to be this romantic contemporary… but it turned out to be so much more than that!

And that’s all for now- I tag: Witty and Sarcastic, Zezee with Books, Mim Inkling, the Captain’s Quarters, the Book Prescription, Kiwi Katastrophes, Embuhlee Liest and Sara @the Bibliophagist

Really wanna know what books make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? And what’s your oddest quirk? Let me know in the comments! (and we can feel like oddbods together 😉 )

The Fall Bucket List Book Tag

autumn monkey 2

Autumn is awesome! I can’t be the only one that loves autumnal activities- which is why I am so excited to do this fall bucket list book tag! Thank you so much to the terrific Tiffany for tagging me to do her fantastic new fall tag! I really enjoyed these prompts and absolutely loved the graphics as well, so am glad she says you can use them in the post 😀

The Rules
  • Link back to theoriginal creator in your post.
  • Feel free to use any of my graphics in your post, or create your own!
  • Tag 7 other people at the end of your post, and let them know you’ve tagged them.

light a scented candle

my lady jane

My Lady Jane– this funny take on Lady Jane Grey is the epitome of light-hearted! Which is surprising, considering how dark the history is… but never mind that, because even historical-accuracy-stick-in-the-muds (like me) can enjoy the heck out of this book!

drink pumpkin spiced lattes

six of crows

Six of Crows– this book is so deserving of the hype!!! And it’s the kind of dark and atmospheric read that really suits the autumnal months!

apple picking

Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosopher's_Stone_Book_Cover

Harry Potter– I mean, is there another answer? Whether you love the Golden Trio, the Marauders or Dumbledore’s Army, this book is packed with charming friendships.

cozy sweater

goose girl

Goose Girl– this is an older Middle Grade read, but it’s definitely the kind of book that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

cinnamon rolls

to all the boys

To All the Boys I Loved Before- Tiffany predicted that most people are gonna pick Lara Jean… and I am indeed doing just that! But this book isn’t just about a talented chef- it’s so much more than that! The romance, the family aspect and individuality of the characters all blend perfectly to create the ultimate YA contemporary!

pile of leaves

northanger abbey

Northanger Abbey– ahh Austen always has the power to make me squeal with delight! And this parody of a gothic novel is just right for (us scaredy cats in) spooktober!

That was so much fun! I’m tagging: Kelly, Lucy, Keira, Rachael, Lisa, Bookmark your thoughts, Journey into Books, Kristin Kraves, Green Tea Librarian, Emily @Embuhleeliest, Miminkling and anyone else that wants to do it!

What cosy books you most like for autumn? Let me know in the comments!

The Mid-Autumn Festival Tag!

Hello all! I’m having a bit of a chill Sunday and thought it might be fun to do a quick tag 😀

orangutan tag 2

I was tagged by the wonderful Chitra @Books and Strips– really recommend you check her out!

REUNION OF FAMILY

NAME A BOOK WITH FAMILY GOALS

raven boys

Gosh I’m tempted already to just go with Chitra’s answer of the Weasley family, but to be different (and cos it feels appropriate for this time of year) I’m gonna go with Blue’s family in Raven Boys

FULL MOON

NAME A BOOK WITH A WEREWOLF

city of bones new

I really don’t read that many books with werewolves, and, again, to avoid being HP centric for all my answers, I’m going with The Mortal Instruments series- especially cos I rarely bring it up for positive reasons.

MOONCAKES

NAME A KIND OF FOOD IN A BOOK THAT YOU WISH WAS REAL

Okay, now I really have to go Harry Potter all the way. Not just the obvious ones like Butterbeer and Pumpkin Pasties, I would love if all the food in that series was real. I love the sound of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavoured Beans, Fizzing Whizzbees, Chocolate Frogs… are you sensing a theme 😉 (fortunately you can get very similar things in the real world now)

RABBIT

NAME YOUR FAVOURITE CREATURE FROM A BOOK

Ooh good question! That’s got to be a Daemon from Northern Lights– because I WANT ONE! Mine would be an ocelot… bookish dreams *sigh*

CHANGE

A CHARACTER THAT MAKES A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE TO THE PLOT SINCE HE/SHE DID SOMETHING TOO MANY TIMES

the young elites

I’m going with Adelina from The Young Elites– but I can’t say any of the ways she does this cos of *spoilers*

LANTERNS

NAME A TOY OR GAME IN A BOOK THAT YOU LIKED TO READ ABOUT

That’s gotta be Thud! from Discworld. And I’ve actually played a real version- it’s so fun!!

AUTUMN

NAME A BOOK WHICH YOU FEEL IS THE BEST TO READ IN AUTUMN

hazel wood

I think a book like Hazel Wood is perfect for this season- it’s slightly spooky, has a fairy tale feel and is atmospheric to boot!

FESTIVAL

NAME YOUR FAVOURITE FESTIVAL IN A BOOK

court of frost and starlight

While I wasn’t crazy about this book, I did like the way Winter Solstice in the Night Court was described. Actually all the festivals described in this series are so lush and evocative- I just wish they were real!

That’s all for now- I tag:

Kelly @Another Book in the Wall, Geronimo Reads, Katie @Never Not Reading, Embuhhlee Liest, Sam @Modern Witch’s Bookshelf, Meltotheany, Kristin Kraves Books, Dany@Perspective of a Writer, Sam @Rivermoose Reads, Bookmark Your Thoughts, Sophie @Blame Chocolate and Paperback and Flick Chick

And anyone else that wants to do it! What’s your favourite festival in a book? Let me know in the comments!

Fall Activities Book Tag

I am so so sorry that I have been awol the last few days- I haven’t been responding to comments or posting because my computer, aka THE MAD HATTER, is dying. The temperamental bugger is on its last legs- so I’m a bit caught up with removing as much stuff from it as possible and praying that this won’t be the last time it turns on!

Okay- now that I’ve got my excuses out the way, let’s talk about something more cheery: how much I *love* autumn! (aka Fall) I do adore the changing of seasons and there are so many exciting things about Autumn that make it super special. I absolutely love this tag, cos I get to talk about all those cool things- so thank you so much to the awesome creator of this tag, Dreaming Through Literature, for tagging me to do this! It looks awesome!!

Apple Picking

A book on your TBR that looks so delicious you can’t wait to take a bite out of it.

Ooh there are so many!

tbr-for-post

Corn Maze

A book that’s so much fun to get lost in.

Throne_of_Glass_UK

Okay- I know there are a lot of mixed reactions to this series- but it’s such fun to get lost in!

Haunted Houses

A book that scared you silly.

I am so easily scared, it’s ridiculous. You’ll probably hear this all through October but I don’t really read many scary books. That’s why I was easily freaked out by Breathe (yes I know it’s a children’s book).

breathe

Pumpkin Patch

The latest book you picked up (purchased).

Okay, this is a little embarrassing after my massive haul *and* the bookaholics tag– but I may have bought Raven King yesterday… Whoops! Shout out goes to Jill- cos I got this with the amazon gift voucher I won from her!

raven king.jpg

Scenic Drives

A book that is lyrically beautiful.

 daughter of smoke and bone

Pumpkin Carving

A book you didn’t like and wouldn’t mind carving up.

 as i lay dying

Ughh this book is the worst!

Drinking Apple Cider

A sweet book to curl up under the covers with.

Easily Isla and the Happily Ever After– I need more books like this in my life.

isla and the happily ever after

Jumping in a Leaf Pile

A book that reminds you of your childhood.

Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosopher's_Stone_Book_Cover

Okay I’m not the first and I certainly won’t be the last to give this answer!

Scary Movie Night

Your favourite spooky read.

Okay *see above* about my fear of scary books- but I love Turn of the Screw, even if it does freak me out!

turn of the screw 2

Bonus! Costume Party

A book with an eclectic cast of characters.

Okay, for a change I’m not going to answer with Game of Thrones– how about Falling Kingdoms instead.

falling-kingdoms

That was so fun! I Tag:
