Summery Romance Recommendations! Lots of Fun and Fluffy Reads!

orangutan list

Yes, it’s summer (I know, I can’t believe it either!) so that means I’m whipping out some romance books and looking to catch me some sun! (which, fortunately, has its hat on and is coming out to play- even in the UK!)

unhoneymooners

Unhoneymooners– who doesn’t like a bit of hate to love? This book was a trip on a number of levels and had me thoroughly entertained!

worst best man

Worst Best Man– another book I read not long ago, this also features enemies to lovers. And boy does this couple have reasons to dislike each other… which makes it all the more fun!

When Dimple Met Rishi

When Dimple Met Rishi– this is in the hate-to-love vein, since it starts out as quite a one-sided affair. But it certainly heats up over the course of the book!

ps i like you

PS I Like You– this book relied pretty heavily on miscommunication, but let me say this clearly: I really liked this book. It left me with a big, dopey smile on my face.

Sisterhood_of_the_Traveling_Pants_book_cover

Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants– an old ’un, but a good ’un! If you’re craving summery feels, with all kinds of relationships, then this is the series for you! Plus it’ll feed your wanderlust- and on that note…

love and gelato

Love and Gelato– a sweet, summery read set in Italy- this has all the right ingredients for a top-notch romance!

with the fire on high

With Fire on High– speaking of delicious reads, I read this recently and couldn’t get enough of it! I practically devoured this unique contemporary about an aspiring chef!

the boy who steals houses

The Boy Who Steals Houses– as with the last one, this leans a little away from romance, focusing more on family… (luckily though there is still some love in the air and ach-gosh-darn it’s so adorable!!)

second chance summer

Second Chance Summer– I know, I know, I’ve mentioned this book so many times before… that’s just cos it’s such a fab summer’s read! Just make sure you have some tissues handy! And with that in mind…

song-of-achilles

Song of Achilles– oh boy this’ll make you weep. While perhaps not as obviously summery as the other books on this list, I do feel the setting of Ancient Greece and Troy gives it that summer feel. Plus, the romance gets a little heated 😉

heartstopper 1

Heartstopper– and finally ending on something super-cute to cleanse the palate. These graphic novels are a light and delightful romance read!

And that’s all I’ve got for now! Have you read any of these? Do you plan to? And do you have any romance recommendations for me? I’m dying to hear them, so let me know in the comments!

Falling for more fun and fluffy books!

Woohoo- it’s Fall!! (or autumn as we call it on this side of the pond)

autumn monkey 2

I absolutely love the autumn. I love getting out my cosy clothes, I love getting ready for winter and most of all I love the excuse to stay in with my books (c’mon, we all do it 😉) And what better books for this time of year than some super sweet fluff!

orangutan list

the flatshare

Flatshare– if you’re after a modern love story then look no further! Cos OMG this quirky romance is the perfect homecoming if you’re still craving something summery 😀

cinder and ella

Cinder and Ella– I know I mention this a lot (because I ❤ cinderella retellings) but man, this book is so good!!

geekerella

Geekerella– yes I am addicted to Cinderella retellings, yes at least one is always bound to end up on this list. And really, you can’t go wrong with this refreshing fandom-themed take on the classic fairy tale! Also, tis the season to get dressed up in funky costumes and pretend to be someone else 😉

kindred spirits

Kindred Spirits– it’s been a long time since I mentioned this adorable novella and it’s very much overdue! This really relatable story features so much geekiness and I am SO HERE FOR IT!

eliza and her monsters

Eliza and Her Monsters– another story that’s super relevant to the modern world, this book is so relevant to the likes of us who like hanging out online… which is everyone here 😉

my lady jane

My Lady Jane– admittedly not modern, this is most definitely a contemporary take on the story of Lady Jane Grey. Hilarious, quirky and with plenty of *magic*- you can’t go wrong with this unique read! (and the next one in the Lady Janies series is good too)

goose girl

Goose Girl– admittedly with sadder aspects, nothing could have a fluffier, happier ending than this Middle Grade retelling. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

ps i like you

PS I Like You– PS I liked this book 😉 Okay don’t let my cheesy joke put you off- this is possibly my favourite Kasie West book because it is SO CUTE!

kiss quotient

Kiss Quotient– I swear Hoang is my new love in the contemporary genre- I can’t count the times I’ve recommended this- and can estimate I’m gonna mention it a lot more in the future!

zenn diagram

Zenn Diagram– with more of a magical realism twist, this book certainly adds up to a good time. And you get a really deep romance and aww-inspiring ending to boot!

And that’s all for now! Have you read any of these books? Do you plan to? And what books do you think make great fluffy reads? Let me know in the comments!

Let’s have a quick spring fling… fluffy fun books!

orangutan list

It’s been a hot minute since I talked about purely cutesy reads- in fact, the last time I talked about fluff and nothing but fluff was 2015! So I think it’s safe to say that list could do with a little updating. I know I’ve definitely read more sappy reads since then.

the hating game

The Hating Game– let’s start with something that has hate in the title, shall we? 😉 If by chance you haven’t heard of this book, don’t be deceived by the title, this is one helluva of the sappy, rewarding, funny read AND I LOVED IT.

night of cake and puppets

Night of Cake and Puppets– it’s no secret I am a MAJOR fan of Laini Taylor’s- but I don’t feel like I go on about this book enough, because it is less in the fantasy category and more in the OH MY GOODNESS THIS DELICIOUSLY SWEET BOOK JUST MADE MY HEART MELT! So yeah, I think it’s a good contender for this list 😉

love and gelato

Love and Gelato– speaking of sugary things- this has all the ingredients of a fun contemporary! Ice cream- check! Romantic Italian location- check! Love- double check!

180 seconds

180 Seconds– I don’t feel like I mention this book enough, but it takes the MEET CUTE/love at first sight trope to a whole different level. Unexpected and surprisingly emotional, this is one romance that will capture your heart in record time.

simon vs the homosapien agenda

Simon Vs the Homosapien Agenda– everyone that’s read Albertalli’s modern romance must surely know how perfect it is for this list! It scarcely needs introduction at this point- so if by chance you haven’t checked it out yet, definitely push it up your TBR, cos you won’t be disappointed! And be sure to check out the movie as well if you’re not quite satiated!

carry on

Carry On– while this does have a satirical edge, Rowell is the master of CUTE romance and this has all the best components of a fun read. And with the second book coming out this year I COULDN’T BE MORE THRILLED!

ForbiddenWish_BOM.indd

Forbidden Wish– I really should talk about this book more, cos it’s a perfectly charming Aladdin retelling. Beautifully told and delightfully romantic, this is a lovely YA fantasy.

nimona

Nimona– yes, this may technically be a book about a supervillain BUT I can safely say this delivers on the fun, humorous side enough to qualify for this list! Plus, I defy you to not fall in love with spunky, bonkers, hilarious Nimona!

anne-of-green-gables

Anne of Green Gables– would you believe that 4 years ago I hadn’t read this gem? Naturally I had to rectify that and I’m glad I did! While it does have some dark themes (which the Netflix show decided to run with much to its detriment) Montgomery lends such charm to her writing that all you come away feeling all warm and fuzzy inside (but also a little heartbroken).

secret countess

The Secret Countess– keeping to more classic of cuteness, you can’t go wrong with a good old-fashioned Eva Ibbotson book! Now, I’m often biased and name this one since it’s my favourite- but that shouldn’t mean you rule out any of the others! They’re all perfectly gorgeous, gilded with the same fairy tale feel and worth picking up.

So have you read any of these? Do you plan to? Let me know in the comments!

What To Read When You Have No Time

Right, so you may (or may not) have noticed my absence in the last few days. I’ve not been online much at all cos I’ve been busy busy busy! This has also meant I haven’t had much time to read- which is no good at all!! (and it looks like my schedule’s only gonna get more manic- ahhh!) But in the midst of all my panicking, I’ve also had a think about the kind of books that are good to read when you have no time- I thought I’d share these thoughts with you. Enjoy!

  1. Fluffy books

second chance summer

Yes, contemporary romance is my go to relaxation genre- because what could beat a seriously sappy story where the only real drama is “will they/won’t they?” They’re the perfect distraction when you’re too busy to think!

  1. Something you’ve read before

Emma_Jane_Austen_book_cover

Okay- the theme here is quickly becoming not having to think- but if not thinking is what you’re looking for, then an old favourite is exactly what you should be reading. Cos when we pick up a beloved book we know exactly what’s gonna happen and how it’s gonna make us feel- and sometimes that’s just what we need.

  1. Novellas

OfMiceAndMen

These were practically designed for when you’ve got no time! Short books make for a brilliant quick read when you’ve only got a few minutes to spare. I love using these opportunities to read something I’ve been meaning to read for ages, but that won’t fill up to much time.

  1. Thrillers that aren’t too wordy

the_road.large_

This is a bit of a curveball- cos a lot of the time books like this are too engrossing to put down. But when you need to unwind, a thriller is just the ticket. And while a slow burning thriller won’t do, I’ve found books that you can just whiz through suit me best when I don’t have much time to read.

And when all else fails…

  1. Children’s books

kipper's book of weather

Especially when there’s only one or two words on each page!

Hope you liked that! Let me know what books you like to read when you have no time and I’ll see you soon (I hope!)
