Halloween Creatures Book Tag!

Yes, that’s right! Halloween is upon us and it’s time for some spooky fun!! Even though it’s been ages since I’ve done a tag, I can never resist doing a creepy, themed one for All Hallows Eve! So buckle up, cos it’s gonna get freaky 😉 (or, you know, not, cos I don’t really do scary 😉 )

Thank you so much to the lovely Dany @Perspective of a Writer, the wonderful Mel @Meltotheany, the fantastic Raven @Dreamy Addictions and the great Samantha @Modern Witch’s Bookshelf for tagging me! You guys are the greatest! (and seriously- check out their blogs, cos they’re all amazing!!)

Witch: A magical character or book

Gonna start off with something fun here and go with Witches Abroad! In my totally biased opinion, the Discworld is one of the most magical and unique universes out there!

Werewolf: The perfect book to read at night

Bear and the Nightingale– cos I like to be cosy (and not spooked out!) I also think fairy tales and retellings are such a great thing to read before bed! (yes I am aware I’m sounding like an absolute kid right now!)

Frankenstein: A book that truly shocked you

Titus Andronicus– Even though I knew a huge amount of what happens going in, it still managed to knock me for six!

The Devil: A dark or evil character

Jacob Black- yeah, I’m going there- however much I dislike Sparkles the Creepy Vampire Stalker, it’s always crazy to me that there was ever a Team Jacob. The guy *literally* sexually assaults a girl that rejected him and refuses to take no for an answer. And if that wasn’t enough, he then develops a paedophilic obsession with her daughter. Yeahhh Jacob’s going straight to bookish hell.

Grim Reaper: A character that never should have died

You know who I mean. It just felt like such a waste- a heart-wrenching, devastating waste.

Zombie: A book that made you hungry for more

WHERE IS WINDS OF WINTER?!?! (and my dragons)

Gargoyle: A character that you would protect at all cost

Always gonna be Baz 😉 (not that he needs my help!) Only, this book makes me go gaga for him!

Vampire: A book that sucked the life out of you

It was sooooo dull. I could barely gather the energy to pick it up, so I eventually DNF’d it. But it still managed to throw me into the longest slump I’ve ever had- which is the bookworm equivalent of being undead.

Ghost: A book that still haunts you

THIS BOOK BROKE ME!

Demon: A book that really scared you

I know I scare easily, but this book FREAKED ME OUT!

Skeleton: A character you have a bone to pick with

I only finished this recently and really none of the characters made much sense to me- but I was especially flummoxed by *all* the main character’s decisions. I have so many questions for her that go something like: whyyywhatwho were you doing this all for?!

Mummy: A book you would preserve throughout time

I’d love to go store this somewhere, I dunno, like a cemetery of forgotten books- it seems appropriate somehow 😉

Creepy Doll: A cover too scary to look at

Gotta be one of the Miss Peregrine books- but to be super original I’m gonna go with the Hollow City one- kinda makes me want to *run away*!!

The Monster Mash- It’s fun to be with friends on Halloween! Tag your friends!

Kat, Way Too Fantasy, Zezee, Raistlin, J. W. Martin, Kelly and Lit Lemon Books

That was fun! What do you think? And which book has haunted you the longest? Let me know in the comments!

Halloween Book Tag (Take 2)

Hello all!! Halloween is coming up (whooooo) so now is the perfect time to do this tag! And yes, I did this already, but that was two years ago now, so I’m doing it again- that’s allowed right? 😉

Glowing-Jack-O-Lantern

Thank you so much to Emily @Embuhleeliest, Sam @ Rivermoose Reads and Eve Messenger for tagging me to do this- you guys are the best!

  1. Carving pumpkins- what book would you carve up and light on fire?

I love this question so much!! I’m gonna pick something different from usual to bitch about and say Bronze Horseman cos I’ve not ranted about how gross I find that book in a while. It’s a straight up abusive relationship, dressed up as something romantic, with a useless main character that’s impossible to root for. There are few books I say “I don’t get it” over, but seriously I *do not* get why this book is popular.

  1. Trick or treat- what character is a trick, what character is a treat?

I’m cheating with this question, cos I’m going with Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows and I feel like he’s the trick *and* the treat!

trick or trear

  1. Candy corn- what book is always sweet?

Serafina and the Black Cloak- honestly this book is candy from Halloween, Christmas and New Year all rolled into one levels of cute! If I had an aww-o-meter while reading this, I’d have broken it.

  1. Ghosts- what character would you love to visit you as a ghost?

Hehe I had to resist the urge to just say a particular character we all know and love (*ahem Sirius Black*) cos I’ve said that before. So I’m going to go with Noah from Raven Boys (which is not a spoiler, since he’s dead at the start of the book). But he’d make a great friend.

(Also, I looked up some ghost gifs for this and most of them are freaky- so I’m considering taking back my answer and saying no one)

  1. Dressing up in costume- what character would you want to be for a day?

Again, I already gave my perfect answer last time I did this (Smaug for anyone who’s interested) *sighs*. So since I am robbed of that choice, I’m just gonna go straight up Nazgul, cos you know, why not? (To be honest, I now have some more sensible answers, but since this was the first answer that popped into my weird, weird brain, I’m sticking with it)

  1. Wizards and witches- what is your favorite Harry Potter moment?

Oh man this is so tough!! Since I’m not using the same answers as last time, I’m gonna say when Harry saves Sirius in Prisoner of Azkaban, the opening the Goblet of Fire and when we find out Snape’s true motivations in Deathly Hallows (yeahhh no way am I picking just one man!)

  1. Blood and gore- what book was so creepy that you had to take a break from it for awhile?

Easily Turn of the Screw– I had to read that one quiet night in Uni when no one else was around… Let’s just say it made me pretty jumpy!

That’s all for now- I tag:

Halloween Book Tag

Ooh it’s now officially Halloween where I am…

So time for something Halloween themed. Thank you to embuhlee for the tag!

1. Carving pumpkins- what book would you carve up and light on fire?

as i lay dyingHaha- what a brilliant question! I think that would have to be my least favourite book in the entire world: As I Lay Dying. I still don’t get it- even after I had to read this damn book twice for uni. Why Faulkner- why write a book about how inadequate words are? Why??? (I did a review on it here expressing my disdain but that’s pretty much all my opinion amounts to).

2. Trick or treat- what character is a trick, what character is a treat?

queen of shadowsI’m gonna go for a Queen of Shadows theme here. Dorian is a (yummy) treat and I so desperately want him to be happy (preferably with Manon not Aelin). And Chaol is a trick, cos he seems so nice on the outside, but really he’s a damned hypocrite (grr).

3. Candy corn- what book is always sweet?

isla and the happily ever afterIsla and the Happily Ever After– I know it’s a lot of people’s least favourite book in Stephanie Perkins’ series, but I just loved this book. It’s really sweet and I always love a happy ending! I get all warm and fuzzy when I read it 😀 (And yes I’ve heard the criticism that it’s unrealistic- but I just don’t care!).

4. Ghosts- what character would you love to visit you as a ghost?

Harry_Potter_and_the_Order_of_the_Phoenix*Spoiler* for Harry Potter 5 (but if you haven’t read it yet, I don’t know where you’ve been living) but Sirius Black, cos I had a massive crush on him as a child. I always imagined him as this kind of rock star wizard type figure. I don’t really know what I’m expecting to come of this encounter- some weird ghost romance maybe? We’ll just have to wait and see…

5. Dressing up in costume- what character would you want to be for a day?

Hobbit_coverOkay, I’m gonna go for a really weird one, just for kicks: Smaug from the Hobbit. Yes, that’s right I want to be the evil, but totally kickass dragon from the Hobbit. I’d spend the day just chilling on a pile of gold and maybe roasting the occasional villager (what? I’ve got to eat something)

invisible

6. Wizards and witches- what is your favorite Harry Potter moment?

Harry_Potter_and_the_Prisoner_of_AzkabanHow can I pick just one? I always loved the Marauders parts of the story best. I loved how complex they were as characters and I was hooked every time a bit of their past was revealed. So my favourite moment is probably when Lupin reveals how they all became Animagi in Prisoner of Azkaban. Although the part when Snape’s story was revealed was also epic! Oh and that moment in Chamber of Secrets when Tom Riddle is revealed to be Voldemort was also really epic. (What? You didn’t actually expect me to pick just one did you? :p )

7. Blood and gore- what book was so creepy that you had to take a break from it for awhile?

breatheBit lame- but I’m easily scared and I thought Breathe by Cliff McNish was really creepy. Yes, I know it’s a children’s book, but there were ghosts and creepy things going on and it was dark. I actually had to wait till morning to finish it. I very nearly put the book in the fridge like Joey in Friends to protect me from it (although admittedly he was dealing with the Shining, which I’d imagine is a tad scarier). Weirdly this book freaked me out more than books that I’ve read that are actually supposed to be properly scary. Don’t ask me why, cos I have no idea.
